Borghetto

Borghetto

Borghetto, a place-name of Longobard origin meaning “fortified settlement" is the name of the first settlement built near the ford point of the river Mincio, considered one of the safest points between Verona and Mantua at the time of the Lordships.
In this ancient village, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, has remained preserved an aura of typical Italian now lost in many major tourist cities of our country.
Surrounded by gentle hills, this place with its water mills seems suspended in time and gives great surprise to tourists fascinated.
In addition to all this, there are many points of interest including the Visconteo Bridge, an extraordinary example of a fortified dam built in two years from 1393 by order of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, and the Scaliger Castle with its Round Tower located on the hill in the nearby Valeggio sul Mincio.
